Despite their appearance, this endangered animal has relatively a small amount of fat and insulation and is very sensitive to cold weather and water, which can be fatal if temperatures remain below 68F for an extended period of time. Notice the animal's tail, lacerated by a boat strike, one of the leading causes of death for the species.
